ALTADENA JAIL

Altadena Jail is a city detention facility located within Altadena Station. Persons who are being held here are pending release, about to be transferred to a larger county jail, or awaiting his or her first appearance in court (arraignment).

Some of the detainees who are waiting to be released from Altadena Jail are those that have posted bail. Defendants who are allowed to post bail may do so after the booking period.

Taking the arrestee’s fingerprints and photograph are all part of the booking process. Apart from that, the arrestee’s physical condition and personal property will be checked as well.

The first Altadena Station opened in 1927. It was previously known as the Altadena Sheriff’s Station No. 7. A teletype system was installed at the station in 1928. Through this, the National Criminal Advisory Network emerged.

A better facility was made available to the deputies in 1930 at the northeast corner of Lake Ave. and Mariposa St.

After more than a decade, a new station was built within the Altadena Civic Center. A fire station and a town hall were both part of the complex as well.

The Altadena Station was modernized in 1987. The station was equipped with the latest onboard computer “lapcop” systems during that time. The computer system eliminated the excessive paperwork that patrol officers were doing.

During the same year, Altadena Station merged with Crescenta Valley Station. In 2001, Altadena Station separated from Crescenta Valley Station after they’ve been given the full-service status.

A bail bondsman (also known as a professional bail agent or bail bonding agent) is licensed by the California Department of Insurance to post bail.

Along with the defendant, the bail bondsman is bound unto the court in fulfilling the primary purpose of bail: for the defendant to appear in all his court proceedings.

If the defendant fails to appear in court when summoned, the bail will be taken by the court and a judgment will be rendered on the defendant.
