West Valley Detention Center

With a bed capacity of 3,347, West Valley Detention Center (WVDC) is one of the largest county jails in California.

It is operated by the Corrections and Detentions Bureau of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Other detention facilities under the management of the Corrections and Detentions Bureau are High Desert Detention Center, Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center, and Central Detention Center.

West Valley Detention Center started its operations in 1991. There are more than 600 persons who are employed at WVDC including medical professionals.

West Valley Detention Center has 4 main female and male adult jail facilities. Those who are incarcerated here are pre-trial inmates or inmates who are awaiting arraignment. Those who have been sentenced by the court serve time at this detention center as well.

Court assignments can be done via remote video for these locations:

  • Barstow Court
  • Chino Court
  • Fontana Court
  • Rancho Cucamonga Court
  • San Bernardino Court
  • Victorville Court

If the inmate is required to physically appear in court, the Transportation Division will transport the inmate there.

There are over 50,000 bookings that are completed here every year. Once the arrestee arrives at WVDC, he or she will be booked. This includes a health evaluation.

The arrestee will be released on bail once the booking is finished. A bail bond can be posted 24 hours a day.

Bail bondsmen are allowed to visit upon the inmate’s, attorney of the inmate, or family member of the inmate’s request.

If bail is not posted, the arrestee will be classified and assigned to a specific cell. The inmate may request for a classification review every 60 days.

Visiting hours are from Wednesday through Sunday. Placing a schedule a day before the visit is required.

You may also set an appointment from Tuesday through Saturday, 8:00 am – 5:30 pm.

What is a bail bond co-guarantor?

Co-guarantors or co-signers are family members, friends, and even an acquaintance of a defendant who will guarantee the appearance of the defendant in all the future court proceedings.

If you’re a co-guarantor of a bail bond, you will be required to sign the bail contract. You will be legally responsible for the defendant once you’ve entered into the agreement.

If the defendant flees or fails to appear in court, the co-guarantor will have to look for the defendant.

If the defendant has not been found in a given period (180 days), the co-guarantor will be required to pay the maximum value of the bail amount.
