West Covina Jail

West Covina Jail is a Type 1 temporary holding facility operated by the jailers of the West Covina Police Department.

As a Type 1 jail, West Covina Jail can detain pre-trial arrestees for up to 96 hours only. After such time, the detainees will be brought to larger county jails such as Men’s Central Jail or Lynwood Jail.

The city jail can house up to 16 inmates at a time. If necessary, the jail staff can provide 6 extra beds.

A lieutenant oversees the operations at West Covina Jail. There are a total of 6 jailers that processes inmates, maintains order inside the jail, and ensures the well-being of the inmates.

Prior to employment, all jailers undergo training at the California Standard and Corrections (STC) Certified Corrections Officer Academy.  They are also required to have a 24-hour training at the said academy each year they are employed.

The jail supervisor must complete the California Board of Corrections STC certified supervisory training aside from the aforementioned trainings.

Inmates are provided with three meals each day they are incarcerated at West Covina Jail.

They are also allowed to be visited by significant others, friends, or family members. An appointment to visit an inmate must be done by calling the station on the desired day of visit.

A visitor will be denied entry into the facility if they pose a threat to the area or if there’s a good reason for such.

West Covina Police Department allows inmates to post bail. The bail amount will be based on the bail schedule set forth by the Uniform Bail Procedures Committee which has been approved by the judges of the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles.

The bail amount is specific to the offense that the person is being charged with.

Are all inmates at West Covina Jail eligible for bail?

No.

If there is a court order or a warrant that specifies an inmate not to be released on bail, then that inmate will have to remain in custody.

How will I know if an inmate can post bail?

The inmate will be informed of this during booking.

Inmates will be given the opportunity to call a family member, a bail bondsman, or an attorney.

If your loved one calls you up from West Covina Jail, verify with him or her if a bail can be posted.

If he or she is eligible for bail, ask him or her the bail amount as well.

Alternatively, you can call the West Covina Police Department to inquire about your loved one’s eligibility to post bail.
