Van Nuys Jail/Valley Jail Section

If your friend or a loved one is arrested in any of the following areas, he or she will be taken to this city jail which is located inside the Van Nuys Community Police Station:

  • Sepulveda
  • Sherman Oaks
  • Valley Glen
  • Van Nuys
  • Ventura Business District
  • West Van Nuys

Just like many detention facilities within the Los Angeles County, Van Nuys Jail/Valley Jail Section detains persons who had a run-in with the law.

The arrestee can only stay at this jail for only a few days or up until the time of his or her arraignment.

After the arraignment, the defendant will be transferred to any of the larger county jails such as Lynwood Jail, Twin Towers Correctional Facility, or Men’s Central Jail.

If, however, the arrestee was able to post bail, the said person will be released from custody immediately after the arrestee has been booked. Booking will roughly take two to three hours.

Van Nuys Jail/Valley Jail Section is under the Los Angeles Police Department’s Custody Services Division – previously called the Jail Division.

Van Nuys Jail/Valley Jail Section is one of the larger jail sections along with 77th Regional Jail Section and Metro Jail Section.

Visiting hours are from 9:30 a.m. until 12 noon every day. There’s no need to make an appointment prior to visiting a loved one at this jail.

Do all bail bonds need collateral? If so, what kind of collaterals do you require?

This is a case-by-case basis.

We do not require all our clients to pledge a collateral. In most cases, we offer no-collateral bonds.

As the name suggests, a collateral is not required for these bonds. However, the defendant must meet several criteria in order to obtain this.

For one, the defendant doesn’t pose a significant flight risk, or doesn’t have prior arrests. The defendant should have strong ties to the community and should have a stable job as well.

However, if a collateral is required, there are several options that you may use as collateral. These are as follows:

  1. Real estate property. The must be within the United States.
  2. Credit Card – The amount will not appear on your credit card statement nor will it incur an interest charge. Your credit card company will simply put a hold on the amount until the bond is exonerated or finished.

This is similar to when you check-in a hotel and they ask for your credit card as security deposit.

You may use different credit cards to obtain the full collateral amount.

  1. Cash
  2. Letter of Credit from a Bank
