Temple City Jail

Temple City Jail is the short-term, correctional facility of Temple Station – a substation of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Temple City’s first Sheriff station (Los Angeles County Sheriff Substation No. 5) opened at the northwest corner of Las Tunas Drive and Cloverly Avenue in 1930.

Since then, Temple Station has evolved into a sophisticated station equipped with advanced technologies used for policing services and jail management.

Temple Station offers several programs that aims to provide a safer community for the residents of Temple City. Among these is the Youth Activities League (YAL). The goal of YAL is to provide the right education so that kids will stay out of the gang culture.

The jail is located in the city known as the “Home of the Camellias”. The slogan was coined in 1944 by one of the members of Temple City’s Women’s Club, Mrs. Ralph Saunders.

The following year, a parade was held in Las Tunas Drive in celebration of the city’s slogan. During the parade, a couple of Campfire Girls who were riding in the car with the camellia queen, Sharon Ray Pearson, handed camellias to the crowd. This parade has since been known as the Camellia Festival. It is held every February.
