Southeast Area Jail

Persons who have been arrested in the following areas will be taken to Southeast Area Jail:

  • Avalon Gardens
  • Gardena Boulevard
  • Hacienda Village
  • Imperial Courts
  • Jordon Downs
  • Nickerson Gardens
  • Parkside Manor
  • Watts

The detainees will be held here temporarily or up to 96 hours. The detainees will usually stay in this city jail until their arraignment.

Arraignment is the first appearance of the arrestee in court. During the arraignment, the judge will inform the defendant of the charges that are being made against him or her. Arraignment is typically scheduled a day or two after the arrest.

The day the person was arrested and the offense the person has allegedly committed will also affect the schedule for arraignment.

After the arraignment, the detainees will be moved out of Southeast Area Jail and into other facilities such as the Men’s Central Jail or Lynwood Jail.

However, if Southeast Area Jail becomes overcrowded, the arrestee will immediately be transferred before the 96 hours is up.

Is a surety bond similar to bail bonds?

Yes. Bail bonds are actually a type of surety bond. It is used for the specific purpose of bailing someone out of jail.

Defendants who cannot come up with the full bail amount set by the court seek the help of a bail bondsman.

The bail bondsman will put up the bail amount on behalf of the defendant. When a bail is posted, the defendant will be released on the condition that he will return for his future court proceedings.

In other words, a bail bond is an insurance policy.

As a surety bond, bail bonds have three parties that enter into an agreement, namely:

  • Principal – the defendant or the person who is being detained at Southeast Area Jail
  • Obligee – the court
  • Surety – the one who will post bail

The Surety will guarantee the Obligee that the Principal will appear in court. If the Principal fails to do so, the bail bond will be taken by the Obligee.
