How will I know if my loved one is eligible for bail?

The defendant will inform the family member if he or she is eligible for bail during the booking process. It is during this time when the defendant is allowed to make a phone call to his loved one, an attorney, or a bail bondsman. Defendants who are charged with less serious offenses are usually allowed to post bail immediately after they’ve been booked.

For more serious crimes, the defendant will have to be wait for a day or two for a bail hearing. During a bail hearing, the judge will inform the defendant if he or she is allowed to post bail and how much the bail amount will be.

Why is bail required?

A bail will serve as a guarantee that the defendant will stay true to his obligations of returning for his future trials once released from Santa Clarita Valley Jail. A bail is simply a release and return agreement that the defendant will have with the court.
