San Dimas Jail

The City of San Dimas contracts with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department for law enforcement services, including the management of San Dimas Jail.

The jail is located in a highly significant city from a historical and cultural perspective. Native Americans (Tongva tribe) inhabited the land that would eventually become the City of San Dimas for more than 8,000 years.

The agricultural sector was flourishing back in the day. This is due to San Dimas’ naturally fertile agricultural lands paired with the ideal weather. The perfect agricultural setting have provided abundant yields for years, especially citrus fruits.

San Dimas Jail is a short-term correctional facility. Detainees who are being held here are waiting for their first court appearance, serving time for a minimal offense, or about to be transferred to a larger county jail.

Those who have been arrested within the City of San Dimas and the unincorporated areas such as Azusa, Asuza Canyon, Claremont, Covina, Glendora, and Mount Baldy will be taken to San Dimas Jail. Upon arrival, the arrestees will immediately be booked.

Offenders cannot be detained for more than 96 hours in San Dimas Jail. On days when overcrowding becomes a problem, the defendants are immediately transferred to other detention facilities.

When the defendant is transferred to a different facility, the booking process may take longer. This is especially true for big county jails such as the Men’s Central Jail or Lynwood Jail.
