ABOUT CERRITOS JAIL

Cerritos Jail is the on-site temporary holding facility of Cerritos Station. Cerritos Jail houses a group of pre-trial arrestees who are being booked.

Holdover inmates who are waiting to be transferred and detainees who are waiting to post bail are also being held here.

Cerritos Station was built in 1997, but the city has been contracting policing services with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department since 1956.

The 28,000-square-foot complex is operated by the City of Cerritos and is connected to the Cerritos City Hall. Aside from the correctional facility, the station provides the following services as well:

  • At-risk youth outreach
  • Crime prevention training
  • Fingerprinting
  • Home and business security inspections
  • Police reports
  • Vacation security checks

In 2001, Cerritos Station and the local government developed programs for effectively identifying suspects in order to quickly solve more crimes.

These includes a fingerprint program. For this specific purpose, an Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) was installed in Cerritos Station.

In addition, Cerritos Station hired a Community Safety Officers (CSO) who were trained by Scientific Services Bureau in latent fingerprint recovery. The CSOs handle all requests regarding latent fingerprint issues.

Cerritos Station’s fingerprint program services the cities of Artesia, Bellflower, Carson, La Marada, Lakewood, Norwalk, and Paramount as well.

The station also has a full-time Forensic Identification Specialist II (FIS II) and can rapidly checks property crimes through CAL ID.
