INFORMATION ABOUT CARSON JAIL

Carson Jail is the temporary holding facility of Carson Station. Carson Station, located along Avalon Blvd., is a substation of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The jurisdiction of the policing services of Carson Station extends to the unincorporated counties of Rancho Dominguez, Torrance, and Gardena. Carson Station is responsible for California State University, Dominguez Hills, and UCLA/ Harbor General Hospital as well.

Any person who has been arrested within those aforementioned areas will be brought to Carson Jail. The city emanated from the 75,000-acre Rancho San Pedro and was named after George Henry Carson.

Rancho San Pedro was owned by Don Manuel Dominguez – George Henry Carson’s father-in-law. The latter took over after Don Manuel Dominguez died in 1882.

Rancho San Pedro underwent a memorable siege during the Mexican-American War in 1846. It was known as the Battle of Dominguez Rancho.

Improvements have been made within the city after the battle which includes a police station. In 1974, Carson Station formally opened.

Nowadays, Carson Station provides several programs that aims to keep the city safe. One of which is the Volunteers On Patrol (VOP).

The volunteers’ responsibilities include patrolling for graffiti, shopping mall checks, and patrolling the area for criminal activity. At-risk youth and gang members who want to change their ways are given assistance by the Carson Station’s Gang Diversion Team (GDT).
